Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
